Payton]: Imagine starting a company and landing customers like before you even have a proper sales team. That's exactly what this startup did.
Payton]: You quit your job the day Chat GPT came out.
Ali Akhtar]: Yeah.
[原文] [Payton]: This is Ali Akhtar, the co-founder and CEO of Letter AI, an AI-native revenue enablement platform. And if you're looking at me and saying, "But Payton, what even is enablement?" I knew you were going to say that. They launched in 2023, raised back-to-back funding rounds within 10 months, and turned a four-person team into one closing dozens of six-figure deals a quarter. And for the first 2 years, most of their growth came from founder-led sales. But founders can only do so much for so long. Now, Letter is in the middle of figuring out what comes next. They're building out a sales team, most of them just weeks into the job, and entering a completely new phase of growth. So I flew to Chicago to spend a day at Letter AI to see how they're actually doing it. It's my first time in Chicago, by the way.
Payton]: It looks like— Are you at Letter?
Ali Akhtar]: Yeah.
[译文] [Ali Akhtar]: 对。
Payton]: Ah, yes. Nice to meet you. I'm Payton.
Ali Akhtar]: Nice to meet you, Payton.
Payton]: Payton.
[译文] [Payton]: 是 Payton。
Ali Akhtar]: Oh, Payton, sorry.
Payton]: All good.
Ali Akhtar]: Payton. I just woke up. You're going to give me a—
Payton]: How's it going?
Ali Akhtar]: Isn't it nice to meet you?
Payton]: Are we going all the way up? Is it this floor?
Ali Akhtar]: This floor right here. Yeah.
Payton]: Oh my god, it's cool.
Ali Akhtar]: Thank you.
Payton]: Office tour. First impression, I love the industrial look.
[原文] [Payton]: Phone booth. Yeah, this is nice. Every office has to have their neon light-up sign with their company name. It's pretty comfortable. Not going to lie. Let's go see where the people are. Come on. Hi. What's your name?
Charlie]: I'm Charlie.
Payton]: Nice to meet you.
Charlie]: Nice to meet you.
Payton]: Payton.
Britney]: Hi.
[译文] [Britney]: 嗨。
Payton]: What's your name?
Britney]: Britney.
[译文] [Britney]: Britney。
Payton]: Nice to meet you.
Britney]: Nice to meet you.
Payton]: Meet you.
Payton]: Payton.
Britney]: You got—
[译文] [Britney]: 你……
Payton]: Payton. And by the end of the night, me and the team became pretty close.
Ali Akhtar]: Today is a very packed day.
Payton]: Okay.
Ali Akhtar]: End of quarter for us today. A lot of activity happening. It's going to be an action-packed day.
Payton]: Sweet. Last day of the quarter, how are you feeling for how you did in Q1?
[原文] [Ali Akhtar]: You know, I always feel like I left a little bit out there. You know, there was one large deal that slipped, but that happens in sales. So, you know, we'll wake up tomorrow, grab a coffee, and focus on how we can get that in the next few weeks.
Payton]: I'm just dead. I'm dead weight at this point.
Payton]: How many like six-figure deals did you guys close this quarter?
Ali Akhtar]: Great question. It's north of a dozen, and then I'm hoping a few more big ones will be coming in right at the finish line today.
North of a dozen six-figure deals and 30 to 40 total deals a quarter from a team that's barely ramped. Eric and Ben in their first week, Arley and Jacob five weeks in, Lucas four months. Most of them brand spanking new. Which made me curious, how is such a small, brand new team doing that? Luckily, first thing on the agenda was their weekly pipeline review, where the whole team gets together to go over every deal in the works.
Ali Akhtar]: All right. So, last day of the quarter, pipeline review. So,
Ali Akhtar]: we run all of our pipeline reviews out of our own product, Letter Compass.
